Chicken Pot Pie Dog Treats

Ingredients

Treat Dough:

  • 1 cup finely shredded cooked chicken

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened mashed sweet potatoes

  • 1/4 cup chopped carrots

  • 1/4 green peas

  • 1/4 cup plain greek yogurt

  • 1 egg (don't let your pup lick the raw egg batter!)

  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup oat flour as needed

Gravy Coating:

(optional)

  • 2 tbsp plain greek yogurt

  • 1-2 tsp of unsalted chicken broth or water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C)

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

  3. Fully cook chicken breast and finely shred

  4. Cook sweet potato and mash

  5. Steam carrots and peas until soft

  6. Ensure all ingredients are cooled

  7. Combine 1/4 cup plain greek yogurt and 1 egg in a bowl and mix. Then add in 1 cup shredded chicken, 1/2 cup mashed sweet potatoes, 1/4 cup chopped carrots and 1/4 green peas.

  8. Add oat flour starting with 1/4 cup. Gradually add more oat flour by 1 tbsp at a time and mix until a soft, moldable dough forms and is not sticky.

  9. Lightly flour surface and roll dough out to 1/4 inch thick

  10. Pick your favorite dog-inspired cookie cutter shape and cut out as many treats as possible. Quantity will vary based on size of cookie cutter.

  11. Bake for 18-22 minutes for soft treats; add an additional 3-5 minutes if your pup prefers a crunchier treat.

  12. As the treats cool, prepare the gravy coating by combining 2 tbsp plain greek yogurt and 1-2 tsp of unsalted chicken broth or water and mix until smooth.

  13. Brush a thin layer of gravy coating on top of the treats; the gravy will not harden as a true glaze, but does firm up after 30-60 minutes.

Storage:

Refrigerate for 4-5 days in an airtight container. Freeze for up to 2 months. Do not leave in room temperature conditions as there are no preservatives and contain moisture.
